FAQ

Q: Do I need an appointment?

A: Appointments are essential and consultation fees apply. As we’re a private practice, we charge private fees. Before we arrange any treatment for you, you will be given an estimate of fees for your consideration and consent.

If you are interested in cosmetic surgery, you must have at least two pre-operative consultations. At least one of the two must be in-person with Dr Ek. The other may be in-person or by video.

Q: Do I need a referral for my appointment with Dr. Ek?

A: Referrals are recommended if you wish to claim the Medicare rebate on your consultation treatment (where applicable). We also recommend that you have Hospital Cover with a private health insurer to offset the cost of any required hospital admission.

If you are seeking cosmetic surgery, you must have a referral. This referral should preferably come from your usual general practitioner. If that is not possible, it may come from another GP or other specialist medical practitioner. Your referring medical practitioner must work independently of Dr Ek and must not perform cosmetic surgery or non-surgical cosmetic procedures themselves.

Q: Where does Dr. Ek perform procedures?

A: Some basic procedures and treatments are undertaken in our rooms, while anything requiring sedatives or general anaesthetic is usually performed in a hospital operating theatre.

Dr. Edmund Ek’s consulting rooms are well equipped for walk-in/walk-out appointments and treatments, and depending on the procedure will require no anaesthesia, or a local anaesthetic only.

If you need to be put under heavy sedation or general anaesthesia, your procedure will be performed in the operating theatre of a registered and accredited hospital facility, with a qualified anaesthetist present.

All major procedures are undertaken in hospital as day- or longer-stay admissions, depending on how long you need to be monitored after the procedure.

Q: What post-procedure care does Dr. Ek offer?

A: Dr. Ek and our practice team will organise follow-up appointments as necessary to track how you’re progressing with your recovery, and to ensure the treatment has been successful.

Our friendly staff are always available to answer questions you may have regarding your pre- and post-operative care. If at any time before or after your surgery you have any queries or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact our rooms on (03) 8419 0900.
