About Us

Surgery of any form, whether minor or major, can be exciting and daunting. We understand how difficult it can be to make the decision to go ahead with surgery, which is why at every turn Dr Ek and our friendly staff are dedicated to giving you the information and advice you need to make the most educated decision possible.

While it’s possible to find an almost endless array of information on surgical procedures online these days, there’s no substitute for meeting your prospective surgeon and practice staff and having a compassionate, caring professional answer your questions and concerns.

Sharing advice and information, building trust and communicating openly are at the core of what Dr Ek and his team aim to deliver to every patient.

Dr. Edmund Ek

Specialist Plastic Surgeon (MED0001202123)
Senior Lecturer, University of Melbourne

Dr Edmund Ek graduated from Monash University Medical School with first class honours in 2003. During his medical degree, he received numerous academic prizes and achievement awards, and graduated as the top student of his graduating class.

Having decided at an early stage to pursue a career in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Edmund completed his Basic Surgical Training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, where in 2005, he was awarded the Sir Gordon Gordon-Taylor Prize for obtaining the highest mark in Australasia in his surgical exams.

Edmund began his Plastic Surgical training after one year of Advanced General Surgical Training. During that time, he trained at all of Melbourne’s major plastic surgery centres, including the Alfred, Royal Melbourne and Royal Children’s Hospitals.

Since completing his fellowship training, Edmund has quickly established himself in his field. He holds public hospital appointments at The Alfred Hospital. He is also tenured at the University of Melbourne as a Senior Lecturer for the Faculty of Medicine, participating in medical student teaching, research and course development.

Edmund enjoys travelling and has special interests in microsurgery, skin cancer surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery, and hand surgery.

Amy Pfeiffer (PA)

Amy has been working with Dr Ek since 2012. As Dr Ek’s P.A., Amy is the first point of contact for our patients and makes it her mission to ensure that they are looked after, both before and after their procedure.

In addition to her background in Hospitality Management, Travel and Tourism and also a Diploma in Beauty Therapy, Amy has a special interest in plastic surgery, particularly aesthetic procedures such as breast augmentation and abdominoplasty.

Amy is an invaluable part of Dr Ek’s practice and loves her job – especially the customer service aspect of it and the chance to learn about plastic surgery. As she puts it, “I couldn’t ask for a better boss – his knowledge and skills as a surgeon are remarkable, and he also makes the job fun and interesting!”
